I went to check my BANs sites this morning and none of them were showing any products. This has happened before when I monkey around with the code and break something. Since I haven’t touched my sites in a while except for content, I submitted a ticket to Hostgator, my webhost, to investigate the issue.
Here is their reply:
“Unfortunately, eBay has decided to block some of our servers from using it’s RSS API, which means that BANS and PHPeBay are not working properly. You will need to contact eBay with your eBay Partner Network account and they should be able to provide assistance with this matter.”
Anybody who has their eBay affiliate sites on Hostgator will probably be experiencing the same problem. I hope this is a temporary aberration and that the people at eBay stop working against those of use who are trying to send them business and make a small profit in the process.
I just don’t understand why eBay would intentionally try to short-circuit the businesses of people who are sending them revenue producing traffic? Frankly, it just doesn’t make sense to me. It would seem to me that they should be doing everything in their power to help us, not hinder us!
I know that there are hundreds, if not thousands of eBay affiliates using Hostgator hosting services that will be affected by this. I really hope eBay will re-think their strategy in this area.
Come on eBay, throw us a friggin bone here!
Just for the record, Hostgator has been a great host. Click below for more information.
